Lifwekelo says Elections Are Over, and Zambia Must Move On

Lusaka, Zambia24 -- 24-08-2026 -- The Patriotic Front (PF) has called on Zambians to put the 2026 general elections behind them and support President Hakainde Hichilema, warning that continued political agitation, insults and attempts to destabilise the government will not change the outcome of the election.

PF Secretary General Administration Edwin Lifwekelo, who is also an UPND Alliance partner, said there could only be one President at a time and that the current mandate belonged to President Hichilema, who was elected with nearly three million votes.

Mr Lifwekelo said it was now time for political players and their supporters to stop politicking and concentrate on national development, arguing that undermining the legitimately elected government would only distract the country from addressing the challenges facing citizens.

“There can only be one president at a time and this time belongs to President Hakainde Hichilema, who was voted by almost three million Zambians,” Mr Lifwekelo said in a statement issued yesterday.

He said continued insults against President Hichilema would not alter the political situation in the country while describing attempts to challenge the election results through a petition as an exercise in futility.

Mr Lifwekelo also questioned the political standing of Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, arguing that their ability to challenge the election results was questionable following developments involving the political parties they are associated with.

He claimed that the owners of the Resolute and National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) parties had resolved to support President Hichilema, and questioned which political party Mr Mundubile and Mr Zulu would use to pursue their petition.

He further warned that anyone purporting to represent political parties without the authority to do so could face legal consequences.

Mr Lifwekelo said Zambia had a greater need for development than continued political confrontation and urged citizens to shift their focus from what the president could do for them to what they could contribute to the country.

“It is time to ask a question as to what I can do for Zambia and not what President Hakainde Hichilema can do for me,” he said.

He also appealed to young people to stay away from political violence, insults and activities that could lead to arrest, warning that those encouraging them to cause trouble would not stand with them when they faced the consequences.

Mr Lifwekelo urged youths to exercise restraint on social media and avoid following political figures whom he accused of not having Zambia's interests at heart.

He said President Hichilema had demonstrated vision and leadership and deserved the support of all Zambians as the country entered a new political chapter.

Mr Lifwekelo further called on peace-loving Zambians to protect the country's peace and promote unity, saying Zambia's longstanding peace should not be sacrificed because of political disagreements.

He said the PF, as an UPND Alliance partner, once again congratulated President Hichilema on what he described as his decisive victory in the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.
