Malido pledges to strengthen regulation and support professional media practices nationwide By Francis Maingaila Lusaka, Zambia24 – (September 16, 2025) – The government has welcomed the appointment of Webster Malido as the new Director General of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), assuring that it will respect the Authority’s independence while cautioning media houses against misusing their freedoms. Minister of Information and Media and chief government spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said during the media briefing that no broadcaster will be shut down under the New Dawn administration. He, however, urged media practitioners to operate within the law, avoid hate speech, and maintain professionalism, particularly as the nation approaches the 2026 general elections. “The government will not close media houses, but this freedom comes with responsibility.
