UNIFORMED FOR QUALITY CONTROL

New dress code aims to strengthen professionalism, public trust and agency identity

Lusaka,  Zambia24  -- July 22, 2026) — The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has unveiled an official uniform for inspectors and other technical staff in a move aimed at strengthening professionalism, improving public confidence and reinforcing the agency's corporate identity.

According to a statement issued on the ZCSA official Facebook page, the uniform will be worn by inspectors under the Domestic Quality Monitoring (DQM) and Import Quality Monitoring (IQM) departments, as well as other technical staff under the Quality Assurance and Compliance units. The attire comprises black trousers with a grey stripe and white shirts bearing the ZCSA logo and the Coat of Arms in line with the agency's Brand Manual. Staff will wear the uniform every Monday and Wednesday.

The uniform was officially unveiled on Tuesday at the agency's head office in Lusaka by ZCSA Executive Director Gerald Chizinga.

Mr. Chizinga said the introduction of the uniform forms part of the agency's Dress Code Policy, which will be unveiled to all members of staff later this week.

He urged technical staff deployed in the agency's 17 offices across provincial centres, major border entry points and the head office to wear the uniform responsibly and only in appropriate places.

"Wear the uniform at the right time as ambassadors of the agency. Ensure you don't wear uniforms in wrong places as doing so may damage the image and reputation of the Agency," Mr. Chizinga said.

He said workplace uniforms enhance professionalism, promote team unity, reinforce an organisation's brand identity and help build public confidence.

Mr. Chizinga said the agency had introduced several measures to strengthen its corporate image, including the approval of a dress code manual and the procurement of new motor vehicles.

He said uniforms provide employees with a consistent and professional appearance that positively influences public perception while making staff easily identifiable.

"You all know that uniforms often incorporate logos, colours and design elements, serving as a visual representation of the organisation's brand and helping employees act as ambassadors for the institution. This consistency ensures that staff are easily identifiable," he said.

Mr. Chizinga said a well-branded uniform communicates professionalism and the agency's commitment to quality service even before staff engage with members of the public.

"When you see a group of professionals in well-branded, neat uniforms, without a single word, you know who they are, what they stand for, and why they are there. That is the silent yet powerful language of a uniform. Uniform speaks before we do. It tells a story of professionalism, trust and readiness to serve," he said.

Mr. Chizinga added that the introduction of the uniforms would also boost employee pride, morale and productivity by fostering a stronger sense of belonging and responsibility among staff.

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency is the country's national standards body responsible for developing, promoting and enforcing standards to protect consumers, facilitate fair trade and ensure the quality and safety of goods and services under its motto, "With Your Safety in Mind."
