Lusaka, Zambia24 --- (1-07-2026) — The Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum Zambia (CSEIFZ) has called for the immediate suspension of election campaigns in Magoye East following the killing of the driver to independent parliamentary candidate Mweene.
CSEIFZ Vice Chairperson and Executive Director of HANZ, Ms. Nakiwe Simpungwe, expressed condolences to the family of the late Mr. Sakala, who was allegedly murdered at a campaign centre in Magoye during the night.
Simpungwe described the killing as a tragic loss and a disturbing sign of rising political violence during the electoral period.
She said elections must remain peaceful contests of ideas and leadership, not spaces marked by violence and loss of life.
Simpungwe strongly condemned the incident and urged all political parties, candidates and supporters to reject violence in all its forms.
She called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to immediately suspend campaign activities in Magoye East to allow for thorough investigations and to restore public safety.
Simpungwe further urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the matter and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
She warned that continued political violence undermines democracy, weakens public trust in institutions and threatens national unity.
Simpungwe reaffirmed that CSEIFZ remains committed to promoting peaceful, free and fair elections, and called on citizens to honour Mr. Sakala’s memory by embracing peace, dialogue and tolerance.
