HH Seeks Fresh Mandate for continued development
He Urges Voters to Judge Government Performance Since 2021 and reject violence ahead of the August 13 elections

Chilanga, Zambia24 - 12-07-2026 - President Hakainde Hichilema has defended his administration’s performance, saying the progress recorded under the United Party for National Development (UPND) government in education, infrastructure and national development should guide voters’ decisions in the August 13 General Election.
Speaking at a public rally in Chilanga District, President Hichilema urged Zambians to reject political violence and support a peaceful electoral process, saying the country’s democratic gains must be protected.
The President said voters should assess the performance of his administration since it came into power in 2021 by comparing the conditions that existed before the UPND formed government with the situation prevailing today.
He said his government had implemented programmes aimed at improving the lives of citizens, including the introduction of free education, expansion of infrastructure and initiatives aimed at creating more opportunities for young people.
President Hichilema said political violence has no place in Zambia’s democracy and belongs to the past, urging citizens to ensure that the election is based on issues, policies and development rather than conflict.
He said Zambians have the responsibility to make informed choices by examining the achievements and commitments of political parties before casting their ballots.
Highlighting education reforms, President Hichilema said the introduction of free education has enabled millions of children who were previously unable to attend school due to financial difficulties to return to classrooms.
He said the policy had reduced the burden on families and increased access to education, adding that his administration would continue investing in education to create opportunities for future generations.
President Hichilema also announced that Chilanga District would benefit from additional infrastructure development, including the construction of a district hospital, skills training centres, improved drainage systems and road projects.
He said the investments were part of government’s broader plan to extend development to communities across the country and improve access to essential services.
The Head of State assured residents that development would continue if the UPND is given another five-year mandate, promising increased focus on job creation, infrastructure expansion and improving the welfare of Zambians.
President Hichilema said the UPND was targeting five million votes in the upcoming election and urged supporters to participate actively in mobilising citizens to support the party’s development agenda.
He said a stronger mandate would allow his administration to accelerate development programmes, create more employment opportunities and strengthen service delivery.
The President further warned that some opposition parties risked reversing the progress made under the UPND government, citing concerns over what he described as threats against civil servants.
He urged Zambians to safeguard the gains achieved and support continued implementation of programmes aimed at transforming the country.
