Lusaka, Zambia24 — (02-07-2026) — Socialist Party Presidential Advisor and Chongwe West aspiring parliamentary candidate Brian Hapunda says Zambians are no longer persuaded by campaign promises after years of being disappointed by leaders they elected into office.
Hapunda was responding to President 's appeal for voters to re-elect him alongside parliamentary candidates in the August 13 General Election.
Hapunda said many voters had already made up their minds because of previous leaders who failed to honour campaign promises.
"For far too long, Zambians have been let down by leaders they voted for. For far too long, Zambians have been lied to and given fake campaign promises by leaders they trusted with the mandate to represent them," Hapunda said.
Hapunda said the repeated failure by political leaders to fulfil their promises had made voters more cautious.
He said many Zambians were now judging candidates by their credibility and record instead of campaign rhetoric.
"Because of this past experience, Zambians have said no to leaders who terrorize and who have failed them before, hence looking for new and sincere leadership throughout the country," Hapunda said.
Hapunda said voters would make independent choices at the ballot box instead of voting strictly along party lines.
"By now, the Zambian responsible voter knows which type of leaders they want to vote for and to represent them in Parliament and in State House as President, respectively," Hapunda said.
Hapunda maintained that the electorate would support leaders they believed could deliver on their promises regardless of political affiliation.
