Lusaka, Zambia24 -- (5-05-2026) -- Africa Automotive Analysis (AAA), a local vehicle inspection company, has been awarded international ISO/IEC 17020 Category A accreditation, a move the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) says will boost confidence in the safety inspection of used vehicles imported into Zambia.

ZCSA Executive Director Gerald Chizinga said the accreditation from the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) is an important step in ensuring vehicle inspection services meet global standards.

Mr. Chizinga added that the recognition enhances confidence among regulators, consumers, and international trade partners and demonstrates Zambia’s growing capacity in vehicle inspection and road safety regulation.

He noted that accredited inspection services help prevent unsafe and substandard vehicles from entering the country and urged AAA to maintain the high professional standards required under the certification.

Mr. Chizinga spoke in Lusaka on Wednesday when a delegation from AAA, led by Chairperson Isaac Kalua, presented the accreditation certificate to the agency.

Dr. Kalua said AAA is the first local company to obtain the ISO 17020 Category A accreditation from KENAS, a process that took two years and involved specialised training for inspectors in Japan and the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Kalua added that the accreditation, achieved with support from ZCSA, has increased the number of qualified Zambian inspectors at Nakonde Border Post and that the company works with Auto Terminal Japan to conduct roadworthiness checks on vehicles exported to Zambia.

Mr. Chizinga said inspections follow Zambian Standard ZS 560, which requires mandatory pre-shipment inspection of all used vehicles destined for Zambia to ensure they meet safety requirements and protect road users.
