Lusaka, Zambia24 — (28-10-2025) -- The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) of the People’s Republic of China have forged a strategic alliance to strengthen cooperation in standardisation and quality assurance.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry in Lusaka.
According to Lupiya Mazunda, Senior Communications Officer at ZABS, the MoU provides a framework for collaboration in developing and harmonising international standards across key sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing.
He said the agreement will also facilitate the exchange of technical information, joint research, professional training, and study visits to build capacity in standardisation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Hon. Chipoka Mulenga said the alliance reflects the shared goal between Zambia and China to foster a culture of quality and excellence in all economic sectors.
He noted that adopting global standards and modern technologies would enhance Zambia’s competitiveness and support industrial growth.
SAMR Vice Minister Deng Zhiyong described the MoU as a milestone that opens a new chapter in China–Zambia cooperation, reaffirming China’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s industrial development through technical assistance and capacity building.
ZABS Executive Director Nathan Sing’ambwa said the agreement marks a significant step toward using standards and quality as tools for economic transformation and regional integration.
“This MoU aligns Zambia with international best practices and will help ensure local products meet global market requirements,” Sing’ambwa said.
The ZABS–SAMR strategic alliance is expected to enhance trade facilitation, strengthen mutual trust, and promote sustainable economic growth between the two countries.
