Kafue, Zambia, 28 September 2025 – The Lusaka Press Club has embarked on a major revitalization effort to foster unity among journalists and media students while enhancing professionalism and defending press freedom.

Addressing participants, at the picturesque Kafue Royal Water Fronts, Lusaka Press Club President Roy Makayi highlighted the organization’s role as a welcoming, professional space for media practitioners.

“This club belongs to journalists. It is a place where both seasoned professionals and students can exchange ideas, learn from each other, and grow,” Mr. Makayi said, underlining the club’s dedication to nurturing a free and independent media landscape.

He emphasized that the press club goes beyond social networking; it is a center for skill development, advocacy, and promoting journalistic integrity.

“A press club supports media professionals by enhancing reporting standards, encouraging collaboration, and safeguarding press freedom,” he explained.

Mr. Makayi also drew attention to the club’s facilities, designed to host press conferences, meetings, and discussions that foster transparent communication between journalists, policymakers, and the public.

“These spaces help build accountability and public trust in media,” he said.

Stressing the importance of ethics, he added, “Truth, accuracy, fairness, and accountability guide our work. By upholding these principles, journalists contribute positively to society and strengthen democratic processes.”

He concluded by urging media practitioners to actively participate in shaping the future of journalism in Zambia.

“Through collective effort, we can create a dynamic, cohesive, and forward-looking media environment that champions innovation, press freedom, and informed public discourse.”

The Lusaka Press Club continues to serve as a hub for professional development, collaboration, and the promotion of ethical, independent journalism nationwide.
