The Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) and the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) have formalized a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing their joint commitment to promoting economic growth and reducing poverty in Zambia.

The signing ceremony brought together the EAZ delegation, led by National Secretary Dr. Nicholas Mainza, and CSPR representatives under the leadership of Executive Director Ms. Isabel Mukelebai, highlighting the enduring collaboration between the two institutions.

Ms. Mukelebai expressed gratitude to EAZ for its sustained support in providing resources and technical expertise that have strengthened CSPR’s initiatives in research, economic development, debt management, and poverty reduction.

She underscored that the MoU reflects years of cooperation and preparation, rather than serving solely as a prelude to the forthcoming National Economic Summit.

CSPR will lead a session on public debt management at the Summit, emphasizing the importance of national dialogue on debt sustainability amid Zambia’s current economic challenges.

While acknowledging government efforts in restructuring and managing public debt, Ms. Mukelebai stressed that active civic participation is essential to promote transparency, accountability, and effective economic governance.

She further highlighted CSPR’s initiatives to increase women’s engagement in shaping debt policies.

“Debt affects livelihoods, households, and communities. Women must have a meaningful role in discussions to ensure sustainable solutions,” she stated.

In a key development, CSPR will present a national study on the state of Zambia’s debt during the Summit. The study will offer evidence-based insights to guide policy discussions and encourage broader citizen involvement in shaping the country’s economic future.

Dr. Mainza affirmed that CSPR’s mandate aligns closely with EAZ’s vision of fostering sustainable economic development. He reaffirmed EAZ’s commitment to the MoU, emphasizing that the partnership aims to generate tangible impact.

“Together with CSPR, we are shaping Zambia’s economic future. Our joint efforts will ensure that debt sustainability, poverty reduction, and inclusive development remain central to national economic transformation,” he said.

The EAZ National Economic Summit is scheduled for 11th to 12th September 2025 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka.

The event will convene policymakers, civil society representatives, and private sector stakeholders to chart a forward-looking path for Zambia’s economic growth.
