Lusaka, Zambia24 - (June 1, 2025) - The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has confiscated over 1,000 non-compliant products valued at K29,131 during enforcement operations in four provinces.

ZCSA Manager – Communications and Public Relations, Brian Hatyoka, revealed that the seizure occurred between February and May 2025 in North-Western, Luapula, Northern, and Muchinga provinces.

“The 1,024 items were found to be expired, damaged, poorly labelled, or sold without proper registration or ZCSA approval,” Hatyoka said.

He added that some products violated the Zambian Standard ZS 033, which mandates that English must be the primary language on labels, noting that some items were labelled entirely in foreign languages.

Seized products included cooking oil, bottled water, synthetic detergents, margarine, sugar, potable spirits, fruit-flavoured drinks, wheat flour, electrical appliances, and clear beer.

ZCSA stated that some of the products will be destroyed, while others will be subjected to corrective measures. The agency warned of stern action against traders supplying unsafe goods.

“These products pose real risks to consumer health and safety,” Hatyoka said. “ZCSA will continue to enhance enforcement, education, and stakeholder engagement to ensure public protection.”

He urged the public to report suspicious products covered by compulsory standards to the nearest ZCSA office.

ZCSA operates under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry and is mandated to enforce compliance with compulsory standards for consumer safety, health, and environmental protection.
