Lusaka, Zambia — (18-01-2025) - Zambia has made remarkable strides under the New Dawn administration led by President Hakainde Hichilema, addressing long-standing challenges in education, healthcare, governance, and infrastructure, and laying a strong foundation for sustainable development.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Joseph Kasonde told journalists at a media briefing that the New Dawn administration’s achievements deserved recognition.

He praised the government’s efforts to address the country’s pressing issues, including unemployment and overcrowded classrooms, while expressing confidence in its approach, which has delivered measurable results in key areas.

Kasonde commended the administration for fostering peace and unity across Zambia, noting that political stability during President Hichilema’s tenure has created an environment conducive to national development.

This stability has enabled the government to focus on critical economic and social priorities, generating optimism among citizens.

The introduction of free education, one of the administration’s hallmark policies, has enabled over 2 million children to return to school.

While the surge in enrollment has led to logistical challenges, such as overcrowded classrooms, the policy represents a significant step toward ensuring equitable access to education, particularly for underprivileged communities.

Kasonde underscored the administration’s commitment to upholding freedom of expression, a cornerstone of democratic governance.

Under President Hichilema, citizens, including critics and exiled individuals, can express their views without fear of retaliation, reinforcing Zambia’s democratic principles.

Another notable achievement is the administration’s success in ensuring timely payments to uniformed personnel, particularly those serving on United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Pensioners have also benefited from efforts to clear long-standing arrears, addressing historical grievances and improving their quality of life.

Additionally, the recruitment of over 47,000 civil servants in three years reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing public service delivery.

Ongoing training and professionalization initiatives aim to build a skilled workforce capable of addressing the nation’s evolving needs.

The government has prioritized healthcare infrastructure, constructing 111 main hospitals, 41 district hospitals, and 111 health centers nationwide.

Ongoing projects, such as advanced cancer treatment centers in Livingstone and Ndola, further demonstrate the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for all citizens.

Under the New Dawn administration, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has increased from K1 million to K36 million, empowering local communities to implement development projects.

These initiatives, including the construction of classrooms and health centers, have significantly improved living standards at the grassroots level.

In agriculture, the government has provided farmers with essential resources such as tractors and irrigation systems to enhance productivity and food security.

Meanwhile, the timely disbursement of allowances to university students has eased their financial burdens, enabling them to focus on their studies.

While acknowledging the remaining challenges, Kasonde urged citizens to recognize the administration's achievements and continue supporting its initiatives.

He emphasized that Zambia is on the path to sustainable development, with substantial progress in education, healthcare, and infrastructure paving the way for a brighter future.

“We must remain steadfast and united as we work toward a prosperous Zambia that benefits generations to come,” Kasonde concluded.

The New Dawn administration’s accomplishments signify a turning point for Zambia, marked by inclusivity, stability, and development.

Citizens are optimistic about the future as the government continues to transform the nation.
