Towards a Self-Sufficient Zambia

Lusaka, Zambia  - (24-01-2025) - The Muvombo Development Initiative has unveiled a vision aimed at achieving self-reliance for Zambia, with a focus on sustainable growth and local empowerment.

During a media briefing today at Longacre Lodge, Winter Muvombo, the founder and CEO of the initiative, shared practical steps for addressing Zambia’s developmental challenges and fostering a self-sufficient economy.

Muvombo outlined key national issues and stressed the importance of building a strong local economy, emphasizing agriculture, infrastructure, and industrialization.

He called for increased support for smallholder farmers, including better access to resources, technology, and markets to boost productivity and food security.

Muvombo also highlighted the need for improved rural infrastructure to connect these areas with markets, creating economic opportunities across the country.

Muvombo proposed policies to encourage local industrialization, particularly in processing Zambia’s natural resources, such as copper.

By adding value locally, Zambia can retain wealth, generate employment, and reduce dependency on foreign markets.

He also stressed the need for stricter enforcement of anti-corruption measures to improve governance, ensuring that resources are used effectively to drive development.

Muvombo urged for the protection of Zambia’s forests and natural resources, warning that deforestation and illegal logging contribute to climate change impacts, like the 2023 drought.

He also advocated for investments in renewable energy to reduce reliance on imported fuel and create new economic opportunities.

The Muvombo Development Initiative’s vision seeks to empower local communities, protect the environment, and build stronger institutions, aiming to foster long-term growth and reduce Zambia’s reliance on external aid.
