Zambia-China Celebrate 60 Years of Diplomacy

Lusaka, Zambia24 — (October 27, 2024) - The National Assembly of Zambia celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations with China in Beijing on October 25, 2024, coinciding with Zambia's Independence Day.
During the event, Speaker of the National Assembly Ms. Nelly B. K. Mutti emphasized the need for transparency and mutual benefit in development agreements.
She expressed gratitude to China for recognizing Zambia's independence in 1964, acknowledging the longstanding relations built on respect and cooperation.
“The support we have received from China in infrastructure, trade, health, education, and technology transfer has been significant,” she stated.
Mutti highlighted landmark projects like the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA), crucial for trade in the region.
She noted improvements in parliamentary relations, including the establishment of a Media Centre and the Zambia-China Parliamentary Friendship Group, which facilitates best practice exchanges among lawmakers.
In her remarks, she congratulated China on its 75th anniversary and praised its socio-economic transformation.
Mr. Cai Dafeng, Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress, reaffirmed China's commitment to cooperation with African nations and encouraged leveraging the anniversary for enhanced collaboration.
Speaker Mutti's delegation, including several Zambian Parliament members, is visiting China following an invitation from Zhao Leji, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
