.... Kalengo Advocates for Meaningful Constitutional Reforms to suit  the Impoverished communities

Lusaka, Zambia24 - (30-10-2024) - prominent young leader from Chawama Constituency and a dedicated advocate for Komboni Development, Jephason Kalengo, wants any proposed constitutional reforms to prioritize the needs of impoverished communities over political ambitions.

Kalengo, who was speaking during a provincial constitutional reforms advocacy meeting organized by Chapter One Foundation at Golden Peacock, stressed the critical importance of addressing the constitutional gaps that leave the poorest and most marginalized groups vulnerable.

“Reforms must prioritize these communities,” he asserted. “They should not serve as tools for political agendas.”

Kalengo's call for reform reflects a growing concern that current constitutional frameworks often overlook the needs of those who are most in need.

As a Bachelor of Laws student at the University of Zambia, Kalengo encourages his peers to actively engage in constitutional discussions and reforms.

“As students, we have the knowledge and drive to hold government and institutions accountable on key constitutional issues,” he said.

“We need reforms that offer genuine protection and opportunity to those in need, not just reforms designed to serve the few.”

Kalengo, who also leads the Chawama Komboni Council, advocates for a proactive approach to reform.

He emphasized that meaningful change should be an ongoing process rather than a one-time event, urging young people, particularly students, to take the initiative in shaping a future where constitutional protections are inclusive and equitable.

The advocacy meeting, which drew attention from various stakeholders in the region, highlighted the need for a comprehensive review of the constitution to ensure it serves all citizens, especially the most vulnerable segments of society.

Kalengo's message resonates as Zambia grapples with socio-economic challenges that disproportionately affect the poor, underscoring the urgent need for reforms that reflect the values of justice and equity.

Kalengo remains a steadfast voice for the underprivileged in Chawama, emphasizing that true constitutional reforms must center on the welfare of the poorest communities, ensuring their rights and needs are adequately addressed in the ongoing discourse surrounding Zambia's constitutional framework.
