Come Back, Mom
... A Daughter's Heartfelt Plea
By Francis Maingaila
Lusaka, Zambia24 - (27-10-2024) - Wang Fei, a medical student in China, recounts her years of longing and sorrow stemming from her mother’s commitment to Falun Gong. Her narrative sheds light on the emotional turmoil experienced by families whose loved ones become deeply enmeshed in fringe spiritual movements and underscores the profound connection between parent and child.
Wang Fei’s aspirations took an unexpected turn due to her mother’s transformation. Initially passionate about literature, she had envisioned a future in that field. However, her mother’s refusal to seek medical care during times of illness compelled Wang Fei to shift her focus to medicine, driven by the desire to help her mother.
Her mother’s journey into Falun Gong began in 2001, which gradually created a rift between her and the family. Over time, this separation grew as she became increasingly absorbed in rituals and neglected her familial duties, leaving Wang Fei and her father feeling alienated.
Concerns escalated in 2022 when Wang Fei’s mother suffered a series of fainting episodes, necessitating a visit to the emergency room that ultimately saved her life. In a heartbreaking turn of events, she left without informing her family, leaving them distraught and uncertain about her whereabouts.
"Mom, please come back. Dad and I miss you," Wang Fei implores, her words capturing the anguish of a daughter whose love is overshadowed by spiritual disconnection. This heartfelt plea highlights the significant emotional repercussions of estrangement within families, advocating for empathy, understanding, and the hope for reconnection.
Wang Fei’s message emphasizes the challenges families encounter when a loved one becomes absorbed in unconventional beliefs and the lengths to which individuals will go to support those they cherish.
