Record 45 Zambian tourism operators join Africa Travel Indaba as Zambia intensifies international marketing drive

The Zambia Tourism Agency has expanded its global tourism push after registering a record-breaking 45 Zambian tourism operators for this year’s Africa Travel Indaba in Durban, as the country intensifies efforts to attract more international visitors and position itself as a leading African tourism destination.

According to a statement issued by Hildah Mwape, Manager, Communications and Corporate Affairs, the tourism trade show, running from May 11 to 14, has brought together international buyers, tourism professionals, media and exhibitors from across the world.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Abigail Shansonga said Zambia’s participation at the Indaba is aimed at exposing local tourism operators to international markets while promoting the Zambia Travel Expo (ZATEX) 2026 scheduled for June 4 to 6 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

Ms. Shansonga described the participation of 45 co-sharers at the Zambia stand as a record achievement and welcomed the increased involvement of government agencies and private sector players in promoting the country’s tourism industry.

She also noted the growing participation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), saying the event offers local businesses an opportunity to engage international buyers and showcase Zambia’s tourism potential.

Ms. Shansonga said such international marketing initiatives are important in helping Zambia achieve its target of attracting 2.5 million tourist arrivals by 2026.

She added that partnerships between government and the private sector are creating a stronger and more coordinated approach towards marketing Destination Zambia on the international stage.

Meanwhile, the has invited delegates attending the Indaba to visit the Zambia stand at Hall DEC A20 for information on the country’s tourism products and investment opportunities.
