Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Zambia’s economy, supporting livelihoods, employment, and food security.
However, the sector continues to face occupational risks, including chemical exposure, unsafe handling of agro-inputs, machinery-related injuries, fire incidents, and medical emergencies, particularly in rural areas where safety systems are often limited.

The training will focus on first aid, fire safety, and the safe handling of hazardous substances to improve preparedness and risk response.
The programme carries a total investment of K194,289 over the three-year period, with an annual allocation of K64,763 dedicated to training and capacity building.
A key feature of the agreement is the appointment of the Miss Agriculture Zambia titleholder as a ZASAA Health and Safety Ambassador.

Beyond training, the two organisations have committed to exploring additional joint initiatives, including community outreach programmes, safety campaigns, and resource mobilisation efforts aimed at expanding farm safety awareness and strengthening prevention systems in agriculture.

She said improved occupational safety standards would not only protect workers but also enhance productivity and build long-term resilience within Zambia’s agricultural value chain.
