Katuta Promises Teaching Hospitals Nationwide

Independent presidential candidate says provincial health infrastructure expansion will improve healthcare access and medical training

Iusaka, Zambia24-- (26-05-2026) - Independent presidential candidate has pledged to establish teaching hospitals in all provincial headquarters across Zambia if elected in the August 2026 general elections.

Speaking on the Power FM Breakfast Show on Wednesday morning, Ms. Katuta said the proposed hospitals would help improve access to quality healthcare services while strengthening medical training institutions across the country.

She said her administration would prioritise investment in the health sector to ensure citizens in all provinces have access to specialised treatment and better-equipped medical facilities.

Ms. Katuta also urged Zambians to support independent candidates seeking various leadership positions, including Members of Parliament, Mayors, Council Chairpersons and Councillors, arguing that independent leaders are more accountable to citizens than political parties.

She said independent leaders are able to serve the public honestly and effectively because they are not subjected to pressure from party interests.

The presidential candidate further called for a re-think of Zambia’s political party system, claiming the current political environment has contributed to regionalism, tribalism and political cadreism.

“It is time Zambians moved away from the politics of division and focused on national unity and development,” Ms. Katuta said.

She also said several political players had questioned her eligibility to contest the presidency as an independent candidate due to what she described as ignorance of the law.

Ms. Katuta noted that despite criticism and debate surrounding her candidature, the Electoral Commission of Zambia accepted and validated her nomination papers.

She maintained that her candidature represents a new political direction centred on unity, development and service delivery to the Zambian people.
