The agreement is aimed at expanding access to higher education and strengthening youth empowerment through skills development in key fields of study.

The scholarships will cover full tuition fees for programmes in Business Management, Education, Health Sciences, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The initiative targets young people with talent and potential but limited financial capacity.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, described the development as a “big win” for Zambian youths, saying it reflects government’s commitment to inclusive access to education.

He said the programme will begin immediately, with government working alongside the university to identify and select deserving beneficiaries across the country.

“Education is the best equaliser. It is the best inheritance that any young person can receive,” Mr Nkandu said.

He added that the initiative supports government’s broader youth empowerment agenda and called for more private sector partners to invest in education.

Mr Nkandu commended HYGEIA Global University for supporting youth development and urged other institutions to follow suit.

He also encouraged young people to take advantage of such opportunities and focus on education as a pathway to a better future.

The Minister further warned youths against engaging in violence or being used for destructive activities, urging them to prioritise education and discipline.

HYGEIA Global University Principal said the partnership represents a major step in expanding access to education for vulnerable youths.

He said the university believes that talent is universal, but opportunity is not always equally accessible.

“It is with great pride that HYGEIA Global University has signed this MoU to sponsor 20 fully funded scholarships for Zambian youths,” he said.

Dr Chingangu said the programme is designed to remove financial barriers and support students in Business, Health Sciences, ICT, and other key areas.

He added that the selected courses are aligned with national development priorities, noting that graduates will be equipped to create jobs, improve service delivery, and drive innovation.

“This is not charity. It is investment in the future of Zambia,” he said.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts welcomed the partnership, saying it will help expand youth access to education and skills training.

The scholarship programme is expected to begin later this year, with selection based on merit and demonstrated financial need.
