Lusaka, Zambia24 --- (8/4/2026) – The Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has fulfilled a long-standing pledge to its members, officially beginning the distribution of a long-awaited consignment across the country.
BETUZ Secretary General Henry Sinkala told journalists at a media briefing that the union had procured 90,000 units intended for distribution during the Women’s Day commemorations last year. However, logistical challenges caused delays, prompting an apology to members.
“The union is committed to honoring its promises. We regret the delay and thank our members for their patience and understanding,” Mr. Sinkala said.
He added that the distribution will cover all ten provinces and follow a structured, transparent process to ensure fairness for both male and female members.
Meanwhile, BETUZ recently participated in the Association of Nan Aligned Teacher Union of Southern Africa (ANTUSA) engagement in Livingstone, which brought together Permanent Secretaries and education sector representatives.
Mr. Sinkala said the meeting offered an important platform for dialogue on collaboration and the advancement of education in Zambia.
“We were encouraged by the level of engagement and the support shown towards improving teachers’ welfare,” he said.
Mr. Sinkala also unveiled new BETUZ regalia, describing it as a symbol of unity, professionalism, and the union’s commitment to modernization. He urged members to embrace the new identity with pride, reflecting the union’s dedication to promoting dignity and belonging among teachers.
BETUZ represents teachers across Zambia and continues to advocate for improved working conditions and professional development in the education sector.
