Lusaka, Zambis24. ---(March 27, 2026) — Zambians now have a new tool to manage their money securely, conveniently, and inclusively with the launch of the Bevura e-wallet platform by Yafika Mobile Money.
The platform is designed to simplify payments, savings, and financial management, addressing challenges faced by traders, farmers, students, and entrepreneurs, particularly those underserved by formal banking systems.
Minister of Technology and Science, , who was represented by Bonaventure Mutale, a senior planner at the Ministry, said the launch aligns with Zambia’s agenda of building an inclusive, opportunity-driven digital economy.
“Bevura is not just about technology; it is about people,” Mutale said. “It is about making financial services accessible and secure for everyone—from market traders in city markets who lose hours depositing cash, to farmers in Eastern Province struggling to access credit, young entrepreneurs in Kitwe needing fast payments, and students at UNZA saving for tuition.”
He shared the story of a vegetable seller in Kafue, who struggles to keep her money safe while dreaming of sending her daughter to nursing school.
“With Bevura, her dream is closer to reality,” he said.
He noted that 88% of Zambians have access to formal financial services, but mobile penetration is just over 50%, showing that mobile-based solutions like Bevura can reach millions still excluded from formal banking.
Yafika Mobile Money Country Manager, Khondwani Mweene, explained that the platform brings all financial transactions together in one secure, transparent, and convenient place.
“It allows users to send and receive money, pay bills, save individually or in groups, and track contributions with ease,” he said.
Bevura offers premium features such as Tisonke Group Contributions, which digitizes fund pooling for birthdays, kitchen parties, groceries, and community support, and Saobab Village Banking, which provides transparency and accountability for village banking groups, showing balances, loans, and contributions at a click.
The platform will soon be available via USSD, allowing feature phone users to access its services and further enhancing financial inclusion.
The success of Bevura reflects strong collaboration between Yafika, banks, regulators, government, mobile networks, and technical experts.
Partnerships with the , , and have created a supportive ecosystem for innovation while ensuring consumer protection and the integrity of the financial system.
Mutale emphasized that such partnerships are essential to improve productivity, expand economic participation, and create employment opportunities.
He noted that digital financial services can boost GDP growth by up to 2% annually. Already, Yafika has employed over 200 young professionals nationwide and continues to train many more in digital skills.
Both the government and Yafika encourage Zambians to adopt Bevura responsibly. “Every transaction through Bevura is not just a payment,” Mutale said.
“It is a step toward a more inclusive, empowered, and prosperous nation.”
The launch of Bevura marks a major milestone in Zambia’s journey toward digital financial inclusion, providing transparency, convenience, and security for individuals and communities alike.
