Lusaka, Zambia24 – (10-03-2026) -- The opposition party Citizens First has strengthened its ranks with the official inclusion of Victor Nyasulu, former Chairperson of the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Authority (ZAMMSA) Board.

Vincent Chintu, Secretary-General of Citizens First, told journalists at the media briefing that the move, which comes ahead of upcoming national engagements, not only brings experienced leadership into the party but also signals growing confidence in Citizens First’s vision for national development and good governance.

Chintu said Citizens First remains committed to promoting inclusive leadership and collective progress. He emphasized that meaningful development occurs when citizens collaborate, share ideas, and work together to implement solutions that benefit the country.

“Real progress is not the work of one individual,” Chintu said.

“It happens when citizens come together, contribute their ideas, and join hands to push this nation forward.

Citizens First is open to everyone willing to participate, and we welcome professionals like Victor Nyasulu, who bring experience and expertise to our cause.”

Addressing perceptions that the president is a tough or demanding leader, Chintu said firmness and decisiveness are qualities necessary for real change.

“Some people may think he is difficult to work with because he is firm and decisive,” he said. “However, it is precisely this strength that ensures that once he is involved, real change occurs. With President Harry Karaba leading the way, the country can achieve significant improvements, whereas a less resolute leader could slow down progress.”

The Secretary-General also emphasized the party’s commitment to transparency and public engagement, noting that Citizens First will continue holding interactions with the public and the media to explain its policies and programmes.

“We understand that some people may be cautious and may choose to observe developments first, but our doors remain open to everyone who wants to contribute to the nation’s growth,” Chintu added.

Following his welcome into the party, Mr. Nyasulu declared his intention to contest the position of Mayor of Lusaka on the Citizens First ticket, pledging to deliver “results beyond measurable expectations if elected to office.”

His announcement reflects the party’s determination to build strong leadership and momentum ahead of elections.

Mr. Nyasulu brings both political and administrative experience to the party. He previously contested the Lusaka mayoral seat during the 2021 general elections under the UPND ticket but lost the race.

Following the outcome, he filed a petition before the Tribunal on Local Government Elections challenging the results; however, the petition was later dismissed.

He was subsequently appointed Director General of ZAMMSA, a position he held until July 19, 2024, when he was relieved of his duties in connection with a scandal involving 61 missing ZAMMSA containers.

Nyasulu’s decision to join Citizens First is viewed as a significant boost for the party as it continues attracting supporters from diverse backgrounds.

“When we unite our ideas, efforts, and expertise, we can accomplish remarkable things for the country,” Chintu said, reiterating the party’s focus on unity, strong leadership, and national progress.
