The United Party for National Development (UPND) has warned against attempts by the Patriotic Front (PF) to undermine the rule of law in Zambia.
The warning follows remarks by former PF Lusaka Province Chairperson, Kennedy Kamba, who suggested that PF leaders jailed for corruption should be released, claiming their imprisonment is linked to President Hakainde Hichilema.
UPND Deputy Media Director Sikwindi Situla said the comments reflect “lawlessness” and threaten Zambia’s constitutional governance.
“Is Mr. Kamba suggesting that everyone in prison should be released? Should citizens stand by as public funds meant for health, education, and welfare are misappropriated?” the party asked.
Situla emphasized that those serving sentences went through proper judicial processes and were found guilty under the law.
The party condemned the PF’s push to free convicted leaders as evidence of an unrepentant culture of corruption and impunity.
“The PF has not reformed. They remain the same wolves attempting to disguise themselves in sheep’s clothing,” the statement said, warning that such rhetoric is dangerous and divisive.
UPND also rejected claims of ethnic targeting, stressing that the law must apply equally to all Zambians.
The party called on the government to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice is applied without fear or favor.
“Anyone who breaks the law must answer for their actions. To suggest otherwise is to advocate for lawlessness,” the statement concluded.
