The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) has set its sights on the 2026 General Elections, electing Daniel Pule as party president, adopting a new constitution, and endorsing him as its presidential candidate, CDP Secretary General Dr. Caphus Mukuka announced.

Dr. Mukuka said the resolutions were adopted during the party’s national convention at Trinity University in Chalala, Lusaka, which drew delegates from all ten provinces, underscoring the party’s national character.

He confirmed that delegates unanimously elected Pule as party president, adopted a new party constitution to strengthen governance, and approved a manifesto outlining policy priorities ahead of the 2026 polls.

Dr. Mukuka further said the party resolved to contest the presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections in 2026, emphasizing that the CDP is a duly registered political party positioned for active participation in Zambia’s democratic process.

Meanwhile, CDP president Daniel Pule reaffirmed that he remains the party’s endorsed presidential candidate, stressing that decisions taken by the Tonse Alliance do not override the autonomy of individual member parties.

Pule said the Tonse Alliance operates as a coalition of independent political parties, each entitled to make its own decisions, including the selection of presidential candidates.

He added that consultations with alliance members are ongoing and urged patience while discussions continue.

Addressing alliance leadership positions, Pule said roles such as vice chairpersons and spokesperson will be filled through convention elections, noting these processes do not affect his status as the CDP presidential candidate.

He also dismissed suggestions that certain parties are still part of the alliance, stating that some groups are no longer members.

Pule concluded by saying that while the CDP’s position is clear, other Tonse Alliance members are yet to announce their decisions, and his final stance on broader alliance participation will be communicated once consultations conclude.
