Lusaka, Zambia24 – (4th December 2025) - Zambia and China are deepening their long-standing friendship by strengthening cooperation in media, cultural exchange, and joint content development through a new ZNBC–NRTA partnership.

Speaking on Thursday during the China-Africa Audiovisual Showcase and the signing ceremony of the content-exchange agreement between ZNBC and China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana said the Zambia–China relationship is anchored on decades of mutual respect and cooperation that continue to grow across generations.

Mr. Kawana said the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the launch of the China–Africa Visual Showcase will deepen collaboration, enhance cultural exchanges, and increase mutual understanding through the joint development of content across radio, television, and digital platforms.

He noted that the partnership will strengthen institutional ties, broaden media cooperation, and promote meaningful interaction between Chinese and African civilizations.

He further emphasized that the government remains committed to supporting joint media production and content-sharing initiatives, adding that platforms such as the China-Africa Audiovisual Showcase create opportunities for cultural promotion and shared revenue generation.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Han Jing, thanked the Zambian government for its support, stating that despite changes in the global environment, the China–Zambia friendship remains strong.

Jing emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Xi Jinping’s vision under the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to promote exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and African civilizations.

He said the expanding partnership continues to enhance mutual understanding and people-to-people ties.

ZNBC Director General Berry Lwando described the launch of the China-Africa Audiovisual Showcase as timely and strategically important for strengthening cultural exchange and cooperation in the media sector.

Lwando revealed that the Corporation has already received 23 programmes from NRTA, including TV series, documentaries, and animations, noting that these additions will significantly enrich the quality, variety, and depth of ZNBC’s programming.

Meanwhile, Wang Yanhui of the NRTA reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties through increased broadcast content exchange aimed at promoting the diverse cultures of both countries.

Yanhui added that the partnership will also introduce Chinese martial arts into Zambia’s local productions, bringing greater cultural diversity to the media landscape.
