Unity for Women in Politics

Female politicians commit to collaboration, solidarity, and resource mobilization ahead of elections

Lusaka. Zambia24 --- ( 20 November 2025) – Female politicians from across Zambia have pledged unity and collaboration to strengthen women’s political participation ahead of the 2026 General Elections, addressing historical under-representation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in governance.

The pledge came during a press conference following a dialogue hosted by the Non-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) at the Mary Kazunga Hall, NGOCC Secretariat, Lusaka.

Leaders from political parties and independent candidates shared personal experiences of challenges in the political arena.

NDC President Saboi Imboela, speaking at the event, highlighted the urgency of the initiative.

“It is unacceptable that women, young people, and persons with disabilities remain marginalized in key decision-making spaces,” she said.

“Today, we are uniting across political lines to ensure our voices are heard and our representation is strengthened.”

Participants pointed out barriers that continue to limit women’s engagement, including unequal access to financial resources, lack of campaign support, and entrenched cultural and societal norms. “Running for office is never easy,” said a representative from Young Women in Action.

“We often struggle just to be recognized as serious candidates. But our commitment to change drives us forward.”

The female politicians committed to working together across party lines, building networks of support, and pooling resources to strengthen campaigns for the 2026 elections.

Imboela emphasized that the initiative is about more than politics.

“This is about fairness, dignity, and opening opportunities for a generation that believes it can lead,” she said. “When women rise together, we inspire hope and challenge the stereotypes that have held us back for too long.”

The dialogue included representatives from Citizens First (CF), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Restoration Party (NAREP), New Era Democratic Party (NEDP), New Heritage Party (NHP), Socialist Party (SP), independent candidates, Young Women in Action, Zambia National Association of Women with Disabilities, and NGOCC.

The joint commitment marks a significant step toward leveling the political playing field in Zambia and underscores the determination of female leaders to influence policy, governance, and representation ahead of the 2026 elections.
