Strengthening Zambia’s Electoral Process

CSEIFZ urges ECZ to expand voter registration, improve transparency, and ensure wider participation ahead of the 2026 elections.

Lusaka, Zambia24 — (November 6, 2025) — The Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum Zambia (CSEIFZ) has called for concrete measures to strengthen Zambia’s electoral process by ensuring wider access to voter registration and greater transparency ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

CSEIFZ Chairperson Solomon Ngoma recommended that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) extend the ongoing mobile voter registration exercise until December 2025.

The extension, he said, would allow more eligible citizens to register, particularly those who missed earlier phases due to distance, lack of information, or other logistical challenges.

“Extending the registration period will ensure that every eligible voter has a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process, which is critical for a credible election,” Ngoma said.

While noting progress in phases three and four of the registration exercise, CSEIFZ urged ECZ to release detailed statistics broken down by province, district, and constituency.

The forum said that sharing such information would enable civil society organizations and the public to monitor the process, identify potential challenges, and strengthen trust in Zambia’s electoral system.

Ngoma emphasized the importance of early engagement between ECZ, civil society groups, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

He called for open consultations to review the current voter registration process, identify gaps, and develop strategies to address them.

“Inclusive planning and collaboration are essential to ensure the registration process is accessible, efficient, and transparent,” he said.

The forum also highlighted the need for targeted outreach in remote and underserved areas, where logistical challenges have historically limited voter participation.

CSEIFZ encouraged ECZ to enhance public awareness campaigns and mobile registration efforts to reach all eligible citizens.

CSEIFZ reaffirmed its commitment to promoting free, fair, and credible elections in Zambia. The forum urged ECZ to continue improving its systems, expanding access, and maintaining open communication with stakeholders to ensure that every citizen can exercise their right to vote and contribute to the country’s democratic future.
