Lusaka, Zambia24 – (November 18, 2025) --- The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has stepped up its monitoring of manufacturers as the regulator intensifies efforts to strengthen compliance with compulsory standards, urging industry players to work more closely with the Agency to ensure product safety and protect consumers.

During a management visit to Crown Millers Limited in Lusaka on November 17, 2025, ZCSA Executive Director Gerald Chizinga said the heightened oversight is meant to reinforce adherence to mandatory safety requirements while supporting manufacturers to improve production processes.

Mr. Chizinga explained that management visits help the Agency understand operations within regulated entities, identify potential compliance gaps, and offer technical guidance to companies producing goods covered by compulsory standards.

“As Crown Millers, you have a new milling plant and therefore we decided to visit you and assure you of our continued support,” he said. “Our role, as a regulator, is to enforce mandatory standards, but it is also in your interest to produce safe products.”

He commended Crown Millers for maintaining compliance with ZCSA’s prescribed standards, noting that such consistency is vital for public health and market trust.

Crown Millers Limited Managing Director Muhammad Shabbir Patel welcomed the Agency’s engagement and stressed the need for strict safety and quality adherence for products such as mealie meal and wheat flour, which are consumed daily by millions of people.

ZCSA, established under the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017, is mandated to enforce compulsory standards to ensure public health and safety, consumer protection, and environmental preservation.
