Lusaka, Zambia24 -- (November 02, 2025) — Forty firms have gained approval from the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) in the third quarter of 2025, Acting Communications Manager Onishias Maamba has confirmed, highlighting the Agency’s efforts to protect public health and guide businesses on compliance.
Maamba revealed that Lusaka Province led with 26 new licenses, followed by Central Province with seven, North Western with three, Eastern with two, and Western and Southern provinces with one each.
The newly licensed manufacturers are producing mealie meal, wheat flour, cooking oil, fruit-flavored drinks, jam, packaged drinking water, beverages, dishwashing liquid, and stock feed.
According to Maamba, ZCSA’s licensing process is more than a legal formality.
“Engaging the Agency before starting production ensures manufacturers understand the standards they must meet, which protects consumers and increases the likelihood of business success,” he said.
He emphasized that compliance with compulsory standards not only safeguards public health but also strengthens consumer confidence and market access for manufacturers.
Maamba further reminded producers, importers, and suppliers that it is a legal requirement to obtain a ZCSA license before supplying products covered by compulsory standards.
“Failure to comply risks legal action and endangers public safety,” he warned, stressing the human impact of substandard or unsafe products.
He also explained that ZCSA regulates 102 locally manufactured and imported products, ranging from food and beverages to construction materials, chemical products, packaging materials, household electrical appliances, petroleum products, fertilizers, and used textile goods.
“These approvals demonstrate ZCSA’s unwavering commitment to guiding manufacturers and ensuring every product on the market meets safety and quality standards,” Maamba added, underlining the Agency’s dual role of protection and facilitation.
