Auxilia Ponga Heads ZWW

Lusaka, Zambia24, – (4-10-2025) -The Zambia We Want (ZWW) has elected Dr. Auxilia Bupe Ponga as its new Chairperson, a position that automatically makes her the head of the party and its senior-most office bearer.
Dr. Ponga was declared duly elected on Friday, October 3, 2025, by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) after defeating Hon. Bert Mushala in a closely contested leadership race.
In line with the ZWW constitution, the Chairperson assumes full authority to lead the party’s structures, strategy, and political direction.
ZWW Secretary General Muhabi Lungu, confirming the outcome in a statement on Saturday, said the party expects Dr. Ponga’s leadership to bring renewed credibility and vision.
“Dr. Ponga brings a wealth of experience in leadership and administration, having served at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, the United Nations system, and as Permanent Secretary in the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
She is also a University Lecturer,” Mr. Lungu said.
He added that the party looks forward to benefitting from her governance background and leadership style as ZWW works to strengthen its position on the national political stage.
Dr. Ponga’s election comes at a crucial moment when ZWW is seeking to expand its reach and assert itself as a credible political alternative ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Her victory over Mushala, a long-time party figure, is being seen by political analysts as a sign of ZWW’s shift towards inclusivity and professional leadership.
With the elections drawing closer, ZWW is expected to sharpen its grassroots mobilisation, policy messaging, and public engagement.
Dr. Ponga’s leadership is projected to shape the party’s image as it positions itself against established political heavyweights.
Her appointment marks a new chapter for ZWW — one that blends political ambition with technocratic experience — as it seeks to define its role in Zambia’s evolving multiparty democracy.
