Strong Start for NRFA in 2025
Zambia’s road agency collects K1.6 billion in five months
Lusaka, Zambia24 — (06-07-2025) - The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has collected K1.6 billion from toll gates between January and May 2025, placing it on course to exceed its annual revenue target of K3.308 billion.
NRFA Public Relations Manager Alphonsius Hamachila said, according to the statement issued by the NRFA Public Relations Unit during the Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola, that the revenue has been allocated to road construction, maintenance, and related infrastructure projects across the country.
“Our toll gates recorded a total of 7.9 million vehicle passages during the first five months of this year at 24 inland toll stations and 11 ports of entry,” Mr. Hamachila stated.
He explained that the reported revenue does not include collections from toll gates operated through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
These include Katuba, Manyumbi, and Kafulafuta toll gates along the Lusaka–Ndola Road, as well as the Abram Zayoni Mokola toll gate on the Masangano–Fisenge–Luanshya Road and Konkola toll gate between Chingola and Kasumbalesa.
Mr. Hamachila also highlighted the growing use of electronic toll (E-Toll) cards, which accounted for 50 percent of inland toll revenue during the period. The NRFA is working with relevant stakeholders to expand the E-Toll system to PPP-operated toll gates to improve efficiency.
He added that the NRFA continues to complement PPP-led infrastructure development through its National Road Tolling Programme, ensuring sustainable financing for Zambia’s road network.
