.... Republican Progressive Party pledges unwavering support for UPND leader.

The Republican Progressive Party (RPP) has formally endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for a second term in 2026, citing his transformational leadership, economic reforms, and dedication to good governance as unmatched since independence.

RPP President Leslie Chikuse, addressing journalists at a press briefing in Lusaka, stated that the party remains firmly aligned with the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) and has no intentions of joining any opposition alliance “anchored on political bitterness and vengeance.”

“President Hichilema is the right leader at the right time. As RPP, we fully endorse him for another term beyond 2026 to continue the restoration and transformation of our country,” Chikuse declared.

Economic Turnaround and Global Recognition

Chikuse commended the President for stabilizing the economy, successfully negotiating a $1.3 billion IMF bailout, and restructuring Zambia’s external debt, which he said restored the country's international credibility and investor confidence.

“When President Hichilema took over, Zambia was on the brink. The kwacha was in free fall, inflation was over 24%, and public trust had collapsed. The country was in tears, but today we are seeing hope, discipline, and restoration,” he noted.

He said the economic transformation under Hichilema's leadership was tangible and credible.

Meritocracy Over Cadreism

Chikuse emphasized the New Dawn administration’s commitment to merit-based appointments and recruitment. He pointed to the hiring of over 30,000 teachers and 11,000 health workers done without political influence.

“In the past, jobs were distributed like party fliers. Today, young people are getting hired fairly. That’s the Zambia we fought for,” he said.

He further asserted that Hichilema’s leadership had revived confidence in public institutions by eliminating favoritism and cadreism that previously dominated public service.

Peace, Humility, and National Unity

Describing the President as a symbol of humility, discipline, and reconciliation, Chikuse recalled how Hichilema, despite being previously persecuted, called for peace after winning the 2021 general election.

“Hichilema’s presidency is defined by discipline, order, and integrity. His humility in victory speaks volumes about his character,” Chikuse remarked.

Productive International Engagements

Chikuse defended the President's foreign trips, saying they have been strategic and productive. He said the engagements have attracted foreign direct investment and enhanced Zambia’s global image.

“You can’t market Zambia from your living room. The President’s travels have opened doors for trade, tourism, and global recognition,” he said.

Support for Church and Tradition

Addressing accusations that President Hichilema is disconnected from the church and traditional leaders, Chikuse dismissed them as “misleading and politically motivated.”

He revealed that the Head of State is a church elder and has regularly engaged religious leaders across denominations. Additionally, he has supported traditional ceremonies and overseen the construction of more than 100 palaces for chiefs nationwide.

“This is the first President to construct over 100 palaces and fund traditional ceremonies nationwide. That shows deep cultural respect,” Chikuse said.

School Feeding and Social Protection

Chikuse also hailed the expansion of the School Feeding Programme from fewer than 1 million learners in 2021 to over 2.5 million across 116 districts, with a target of reaching 5 million by the end of 2025.

“This has improved school attendance by over 40% in some districts. It’s not just a social programme — it’s a national investment in our children,” he stated.

He described the initiative as a silent revolution in education and health, driven by a government that prioritizes human development.

Opposition Without Vision

Chikuse criticized some opposition parties, accusing them of promoting bitterness and lacking a clear national agenda.

He warned that Zambians must be cautious of leaders who seek power without a vision for sustainable development or unity.

“The RPP remains committed to President Hichilema’s alliance. We believe he is the right leader at the right time,” he said. “We will not be enticed into coalitions that are based on personal bitterness and political vengeance.”

Call to Action

Chikuse concluded by urging Zambians to look beyond propaganda and appreciate the ongoing transformation in governance, service delivery, and international relations.

“The President has given Zambians a sense of dignity and hope again. He deserves not just our support, but a full second term,” Chikuse affirmed.
