Lusaka, Zambia – March 6, 2025 – The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) has directed all fuel transporters to submit their tanker trucks for verification in accordance with the Metrology Act No. 6 of 2017.
Sandra Mwila (Ms.), Senior Public Relations Officer at ZMA, stated that some transporters have been found operating without valid Certificates of Verification, which is a violation of the law.
Mwila emphasized that the Metrology Act mandates all measuring instruments, including those used in fuel transport, must be calibrated and verified before use.
"Failure to comply with these regulations risks inaccurate fuel measurements, unfair trade practices, and compromised safety," she warned.
She also stated that operators without valid Certificates of Verification will be prohibited from loading or offloading fuel, and non-compliance will lead to penalties as per Metrology laws.
In addition, ZMA has announced plans to increase inspections to ensure adherence to the law. Stakeholders in the petroleum sector are encouraged to reach out to the Agency for any clarification or guidance on the verification process.
The ZMA, operating under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, is responsible for maintaining national measurement standards and certifying measuring instruments used in commercial transactions.
