Zambia Beats Corruption
....Cheelo Katambo says the New Dawn administration has set an unmatched standard in fighting corruption, as evidenced by the improved CPI ranking, signaling a shift in governance.

Lusaka, Zambia – The United Party for National Development (UPND) government has established an unprecedented standard in the fight against corruption, achieving tangible results that surpass previous administrations, according to the party’s Deputy Media Director, Cheelo Katambo.
Katambo pointed to Zambia’s improving Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score as a testament to President Hakainde Hichilema’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
The country’s 2024 CPI score increased to 39, up from 37 in 2023, marking the second consecutive improvement in just three and a half years.
“This achievement is a direct result of the UPND government’s firm stance against corruption and the deliberate policies implemented to enhance accountability,” Katambo said.
“Unlike past administrations that merely spoke about fighting corruption, we have taken decisive action.”
Real Action, Not Lip Service
Since assuming office in 2021, President Hichilema has overseen sweeping institutional reforms aimed at curbing corruption.
His administration has strengthened oversight mechanisms, empowered investigative agencies, and held perpetrators accountable regardless of their political or social status.
“The days of impunity are over. The President has been clear in his warning—‘you are on your own’—a message that corruption will not be tolerated in this administration,” Katambo emphasized.
One of the most notable measures introduced by the UPND government is the Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC), which has expedited the prosecution of corruption-related cases.
Katambo highlighted that this specialized court has been instrumental in restoring public confidence in the justice system, ensuring that cases are handled swiftly and fairly.
Boosting Investment and Economic Growth
Beyond the legal and institutional strides, the fight against corruption has positioned Zambia as an attractive destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
Investors, Katambo argued, are drawn to economies where transparency and accountability prevail.
“No investor wants to operate in a corrupt environment. By creating a governance system rooted in integrity, the UPND is unlocking greater economic opportunities, job creation, and long-term sustainable development,” he said.
A New Benchmark in Governance
Katambo asserted that the UPND has set a new benchmark in governance, proving that corruption is not a permanent culture but a choice that can be eradicated through decisive leadership.
“This government has shown that corruption is not an inevitable part of our society. With political will and strong institutions, we can create a Zambia that is transparent, accountable, and economically vibrant,” he concluded.
With its continued efforts, the UPND government is reshaping Zambia’s governance landscape and laying the foundation for a future where corruption is the exception, not the norm.
