NDC Commends Government Efforts for Championing Peace and urges Peaceful upcoming by Elections

Lusaka, Zambia – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the government for its ongoing efforts in addressing key national issues, including law enforcement, public health, youth employment, and education. The party has also called for peaceful elections and the promotion of civility in political processes as the country approaches critical by-elections.

Speaking at a media conference this afternoon, NDC Secretary General Kennedy Siyanda expressed the party’s strong support for the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law.

He praised the Zambia Police Service for its role in maintaining national order and urged all citizens to embrace peaceful and democratic practices during elections.

"We cannot afford to forget where we are coming from. Violence has no place in our country. Let us continue to uphold the rule of law and promote civility in all aspects of our national life," Siyanda stated.

Siyanda also applauded President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, acknowledging the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Zambians despite facing economic and social challenges. He emphasized the NDC’s readiness to support government initiatives aimed at national development.

"We believe in a prosperous Zambia, and the NDC will continue to work alongside the government to ensure that the good programs being implemented are successful," he added.

Highlighting specific government programs, Siyanda praised the response to the recent cholera outbreak, commending the Ministry of Health and local district leaders for their effective crisis management.

He specifically recognized the Vice President for leading by example during the outbreak.

"We recognize and applaud the Vice President for showing leadership in these challenging times, demonstrating how we can all contribute to improving our communities," he remarked.

In addressing economic empowerment, Siyanda expressed strong support for the government’s "Food for Work" initiative, which creates employment opportunities for youth while contributing to infrastructure development.

He described the program as a "game changer," helping to engage young people in productive activities that foster lasting economic opportunities.

The NDC also acknowledged the positive impact of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), particularly in expanding access to education for vulnerable students.

Siyanda noted that the fund has enabled many students, who would have otherwise been left behind, to pursue their studies.

"Through the CDF, we are seeing many students accessing education, which is vital for our nation’s development," he noted.

As Zambia navigates socio-economic challenges and prepares for upcoming by-elections, the NDC remains steadfast in its call for peaceful elections, constructive political engagement, and national unity.
