Lusaka, Zambia – (07-02-2025) - ZESCO has announced that it will adhere to its revised seven-hour load management schedule, ensuring improved electricity supply for residential customers despite earlier challenges in securing power imports.

Speaking at a media briefing today, ZESCO Board Chairperson Vickson Ncube acknowledged that the company initially faced difficulties acquiring electricity from a regional supplier due to technical and logistical setbacks.

However, he confirmed that these challenges have been resolved, enabling the utility to supplement its domestic generation with additional imports.

“With this improved energy supply, residential customers will now receive a minimum of seven hours of electricity per day,” Ncube stated.

He assured the public that essential services such as public hospitals, universities, and water pumping stations remain exempt from load shedding.

On 5 February, ZESCO had published a power rationing schedule that allocated residential customers at least four hours of electricity daily while prioritizing farmers, industries, and commercial consumers with approximately seven hours of supply. The revised plan now increases electricity access for households.

Ncube reaffirmed ZESCO’s commitment to transparent communication and collaboration with stakeholders as the situation evolves.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our customers, partners, and the general public during this difficult period,” he said.

The update comes as Zambia continues to navigate electricity supply constraints, largely caused by reduced hydroelectric generation capacity.
