Supershine University and the Winnie Musonda Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Monday to provide scholarships and support to marginalized youth in Zambia, offering them access to higher education that might otherwise be unavailable due to financial and societal barriers.
The MOU, which spans a period of five years with the possibility of renewal, outlines that Supershine University will offer 100% scholarships to staff and members of the Winnie Musonda Foundation.
Students enrolled under this partnership will pay an administration fee of K2,500 per term for undergraduate courses.
Rodyers Kayai, Executive Secretary of the Winnie Musonda Foundation, highlighted the foundation's role in the partnership.
"Beyond financial support, we will provide mentorship and life skills to ensure these students succeed academically and professionally," he said.
He further explained that the foundation would be responsible for enrolling students on behalf of Supershine University and acting as the link between the students and the university.
WMHF will also collect K250 from each student to facilitate the process.
Dr. Joe Ngonizadshe Makurira, Registrar of Supershine University, emphasized the significance of the collaboration.
"This MOU bridges the gap between potential and access, ensuring no dream is left unrealized due to financial constraints."
The MOU also includes provisions for disengagement. Either party can terminate the partnership with a 30-day notice, and failure to fulfill commitments may lead to disengagement.
Both Supershine University and the Winnie Musonda Foundation are committed to ensuring that this initiative creates lasting opportunities for vulnerable youth, with the first round of scholarships and mentorship programs set to begin in the coming months.
