Church Challenged to Promote Unity

Ndola, Zambia – (10-11-2024) - Bishop Abraham Mwamba of World Touch Ministries in Ndola on Sunday called on the church to uphold its mission of evangelization while promoting unity, respect for democratic processes, and cooperation with both government and opposition. 

Speaking before a large congregation at the church headquarters, Bishop Mwamba highlighted the church’s responsibility to address both the spiritual and physical needs of the community.

“The church’s mission is evangelization,” Bishop Mwamba stated. “We are called to preach the word of God to lead people to salvation. However, our ministry must address the whole person—nurturing both spiritual growth and addressing practical needs.”

Bishop Mwamba urged church leaders to refrain from contributing to division, especially on political matters, emphasizing that while the church has a role in addressing social concerns, it should primarily serve as a force for unity. 

“We must not allow the church to become a source of division and confusion,” he warned. “Without unity, peace, and order, people are unable to live joyful and fulfilling lives.”

Bishop Mwamba reminded religious leaders to respect the choices made by the Zambian people, including their election of President Hakainde Hichilema.

 He encouraged church leaders to support the government’s development efforts while recognizing the vital role of opposition leaders in providing checks and balances.

“The church should remain neutral, creating a sanctuary for all people regardless of their political beliefs,” Bishop Mwamba emphasized, calling on the church to foster dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation between the government and opposition political parties. 

“Our churches should be places of solace for everyone, regardless of their political affiliation.”

In conclusion, Bishop Mwamba expressed his hope that the church would continue to play a pivotal role in promoting social stability and inclusiveness. 

“We must not lose sight of our mission to be shining examples of love, unity, and social stability,” he said.
