Lusaka, Zambia24 (04-04-2024) - The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) has launched its 2024 verification initiative targeting measuring instruments within the petroleum sector, aiming to uphold fairness, consumer protection, and industry adherence.
According to a statement issued by Mweemba Nchimunya, ZMA's senior public relations officer, the agency will rigorously examine measuring instruments across both public and private fuel depots nationwide, deeming this process pivotal for preserving equitable trade practices.
"The virtual inauguration, chaired by Dr. Michael Kalumbu Nsefu, ZMA's Director of Legal Metrology, convened key stakeholders, including Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and Service Technician Companies, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024," Mweemba stated.
"Dr. Nsefu stressed ZMA's pivotal role in supporting the petroleum product distribution chain, underscoring the agency's commitment to conducting statutory verifications every six months on pumps and bulk flow meters," she added.
He urged all stakeholders in the petroleum sector to promptly submit their measuring instruments for verification this month to evade regulatory repercussions.
Moreover, Dr. Nsefu encouraged the public to verify the presence of ZMA stickers on fuel pumps, ensuring transparency and value for money.
He also cautioned against unauthorized measurement methods during petroleum product offloading, advocating for approved techniques such as Bulk flow meters, Ullage marks, and Dip charts on Tanker trucks.
